State Support of Terrorism Threatens Global Peace: Abdullah Abdullah
State Support of Terrorism Threatens Global Peace: Abdullah Abdullah

CEO Abdullah Abdullah has said that the political, financial and military support by certain countries to terrorist groups poses serious threats to regional and international peace and security.

He said that Afghanistan's counter-terrorism campaign provides a better opportunity to neighboring nations and there is a need that these countries speed up their cooperation with Afghanistan in its efforts to fight terrorism and militancy.

"We believe that any kind of political, financial and military support to terrorist groups is posing serious threats to the region and international peace, therefore every country in the region needs to take firm steps against these groups," said Abdullah.

Meanwhile, security institutions have said that the Afghan security forces are planning to launch their spring offensive against the insurgents in the near future.

It is believed that the Afghan security forces are set to face a tough time in their campaign against terrorists next spring and summer.

The protection of strategic areas and thwarting the attempts of insurgents against key cities are among the major tasks of the security forces this spring.

This new development takes place at a time that the embattled Afghan security forces have been engaging in tough battles with the insurgents in some regions across the nation such as the stategic towns of Kunduz, Qalat, Mehterlam and Lashkargah city.

The insurgents are still keeping their grip on the mentioned areas.

"Nor in the war season neither now, the enemy is able to take over our districts, the collapse of Mehterlam city is a dream," said Fazel Ahmad Sherzad, Laghman Police Chief.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and Ministry of Interior (MoI) have said that they have forged a comprehensive plan on the basis of which the security forces will carry out clearance operations in the vulnerable regions of the country.

"All areas which are under threat have been identified, our military operations will be launched from those provinces and in districts where the security threat is high," said Dawlat Waziri, MoD spokesman.

"The operation will cover all provinces particularly those provinces which remained unstable over the past year," said Najib Danish, MoI acting spokesman.

There are around twenty international and regional terrorist organizations in Afghanistan who are battling the Afghan government.

The security institutions warn that these groups are plotting to expand their influence in the country and establish bases and hideouts.

This comes at a time that previously the US inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) had said that the Afghan security forces control over 63 percent of the territory of Afghanistan and the Taliban have managed to gain over another nine percent of the territory last year.
